I think that I am the youngest person I know that consistently watches C-Span for fun. I've never understood why when people come over they so vocally object to watching it with me. Aside from their coverage of the Congress(which at times I admit can be tedious), there is a lot of fantastic programming, such as the debate I am watching right now. The topic is the "United States role in the World"(aka using force to spread democracy) with former Senator Max Cleland and retired General McCaffrey against, and Karl Rove and Jeb Bush for. And it is a really interesting discussion from some of the people that have had or do have significant affect on foreign policy. I suppose I'm just a nerd and enjoy this sort of thing, but come on guys give C-Span a chance, it is at least more interesting than any of those celebrity judge shows. Now time for some turkey + salad, mmmmmm....

music: Last Days
I am trying to watch Last Days, but it is pretty difficult. Maybe I am just not in the right mood to watch this film, part of me really enjoys the style of direction, and the other is just tired of the constant wandering and paranoia of the main character. And I get it, it is supposed to be representational of the real last days of Kurt Cobain, but it is just difficult to really enjoy. I don't know I'll wait until it is over to pass final judgement, maybe I'll need to rewatch it to really appreciate it.
Anyways over break I was able to delve back into pleasure reading, I was able to finish iWoz on the train ride home, it was fun and interesting to see how Woz himself saw things while before, during and after his time with Apple. So right now I am reading Getting Things Done, and I actually am enjoying it dispite my usual feeling toward these kind of self help style books. So over break I picked up a few new books that hopefully I will be able to dive into, here is what is on the queue:
Obama's Audacity of Hope
Peter Iron's A People's History of the Supreme Court(I am really excited about this one, I really feel I don't know enough about the history of the Supreme Court)
Gladwell's The Tipping Point
Chomsky and Achcar's Perilous Power: The Middle East and U.S. Foreign Policy
And a classic Heller's Catch 22
So along with the school work of Spring quarter I have quite the list, but I am really enjoying getting back into non-technical reading. Anyways back to Last Days, things seem to be looking up.

Disclaimer: For those uninterested in my political rantings just keep scrolling.
Finally I can get a good nights rest on an election night, I havn't had that since... awhile.
The senate is of course still contested, and I don't expect Virginia will be called for quite awhile. Especially with the FBI probe, possible recounts, etc... I just have the feeling we will be seeing Cheney around the Senate more often in the time to come. And now that the Dems have the House I hope Nancy can put those "crazy liberal" fears to rest, bring the party together and show the American people that she can really lead an effective house that will change what I would call the "Fox News perception of Democrats".
What makes me really excited is that my home district, "The Fighting 20th" of New York unseated Rep. John Sweeney in favor of Kirstin Gillibrand, giving the Dems the seat for the first time that I can remember. I really hope that she works well for my district, Sweeney knew how to bring the pork, I only hope she can do the same, but with less spousal abuse.

So I just got my absentee ballot in today and lo and behold there is an amendment to the Saratoga Springs city charter proposing a major change in city government, the move from a commission style government to the popular (strong)mayor-council form. After reading over the proposed changes by the 2006 Charter Revision Commission and the amended charter, I have to say I'm glad I took State and Local Politics last year. My appreciation for local politics grows daily, as does my super dorkiness. =D
Also I have to say I've never heard of the "Rent is Too High" party but evidently they are running a candidate for Governor.

music: The Past is a Grotesque Animal-Of Montreal-Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?
Recent notes:
- The latest Of Montreal album "Hissing Fauna, Are you the Destroyer?" is amazing.
- I am really glad MTV's "The State" finally made it into formal distribution via iTunes, too bad its only season 1.
- I am totally stoked for the Season 3 opener of Battlestar Galactica on Friday. Adam and I just finished watching season 2.5 this weekend and it was amazing.
- I finally got the replacement (non-explodey) battery from Apple last week, my battery life just went up from half an hour to 4 hours (life is gooooood).
- The movie "Snakes on a Train" is even worse than "Snakes on a Plane".
- School is keeping me busy, too busy. It looks like I will have to do some tighter time management.
- My mac mini seriously needs more memory, 512 is driving me nuts.
- Rifftrax is quite possibly the best thing since, well since MST3K closed its doors.
Anyways back to work I go.. =(

Well this weekend wasn't quite what I expected of it, Saturday ended up going to Sticky Lips BBQ with Adam and his friends from Buffalo. Which was amazing, I pigged out on ribs and cornbread. Plans fell through with Meg and with FUMN so that kind of sucked, but I ended up staying at home with Adam and playing some games, which was great. Then today went out to California Rollin with Adam, turns out they don't open on Sundays until one in the afternoon, so Adam and I wandered around the cute little mall, found an amazing record shop that had an impressive amount of Jazz records, I picked up an old Journey record (Because god knows I couldn't live without Steve Perry), and Chopin's greatest hits for my friend Nick. Came back home and ended up dicking around with various PPC linux distros, until I cried and went out for some Chinese food.
On a more exciting note, Adam bought me a copy of Imperial Ambitions by my elderly man crush Noam Chomsky. Adam is so cute. /homoghey
Also I've been scouring the internets for a good pair of reasonably priced headphones, I've settled on these. If anyone has any suggestions let me know, but these seemed the best for the price at the moment.
Back to reading "Brave New World", always fun on a Sunday night.

I have to say the holidays have been quite good to me, details are upon request. But my friend did bring over a bottle of tanqueray ten this evening, and I have to say I have a new found appreciation for gin. This is in a string of rare incidents where my friends bring over very good liquer, last week my friend dropped off a bottle of grey goose as a christmas present, it doesn't get much better. Well it could, my special man could be here and I could actually run F.E.A.R. oh well I cannot have everything after all.

Well today is quite the friday, I am on campus for the sole purpose of turning in some forms and talking to my advisor, and due to my whole lack of a horseless carraige situation I am stuck here until 5pm. I am sooo terribly bored, just listening to music and talking about Sega CD, eels and asian pornographers, how mundayne. I think I am going to head over to the bookstore and see if I cannot find a nice book, or at least a news paper, something to read. I have the feeling I will be posting several times out of boredem, unless something/one distracts me.

CS Theory tests hurt, I do not recall every going over anything remotely that difficult in class, no less the homework. Heliotis might not give tough homework, but the test was certainly a noggin scratcher. Well now it's time to work on my Systems Programming project, time to dig deep in x86 asm, oh the fun! =)
So in closing I say, Rock over London, Rock on Chicago, Budweiser king of beers.

Well today is my day off and I thought hey I will sleep in, then get some work done and maybe go work out a bit. Well I just woke up a few minutes ago and check my email, figuring nothing more than some spam and mailing list crap, and what do I see but an invite to Dungeons and Dragons Online beta test. And well I have always had a bit of an MMO itch and when temptation presents itself it is very difficult to resist scratching, especially since it is Dungeons and Dragons! One of the pastimes of my childhood, I must at least give this a go and see how it plays. So well there goes my morning...

I could go on for pages about the purpose and right for the minority to filibuster but I have to study for my database concepts test. =(
